The Gould Family

Abraham Gould

Title: Reverend

Birth: 11 June 1838, in Chard, Somerset, England

Father:
John Gould. John was a "woolen draper".

Married (1st): Unknown

Children:
Married (2nd): Wilhelmina Frederica S. M. M. Carpendale  on 2 February 1876, at Wookey Parish Church, Somerset, England

Marriage Certificate shows marriage 2 Feb 1876 at Wookey Parish Church, Somerset, (near Wells of 'Wilhelmina Frederica Carpendale', spinster, of  'full age'), father Maxwell Carpendale, Clerk in Orders, to Abraham Gould, widower, gentleman, father John Gould, Woollen draper. Witnesses were Montegue Maxwell Carpendale, Captain 2nd Scinde Horse, and Susanna ? H Hacket. Residence of Wilhelmina at time of marriage is ?Tunbridge?.

For some reason a "special marriage license" was issued to this couple by the Wookey Parish. This refers to Abraham as Revd. Abraham Gould. In Armagh Clergy 1800-2000, Rev. W.E.C. Fleming refers to Abraham Gould as being "of South Hamstead".

Occupation: The marriage license to Wilhelmina in 1876 refers to Abraham as "Revd. Abraham Gould" indicating clerical office, but the 1881 census lists his occupation as "London Correspondent" which I would take as a journalist type occupation, and on the birth certificate of his son Charles, Abraham's occupation is listed as "Literary Correspondent"

Census:
1881: 111 Adelaide Rd, London, Middlesex
