Notes: Arthur served in the Royal Engineers in World War I, commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Kent (Fortress) Engineers on 6 September 1915 (London Gazette 17 September 1915 p9307). He relinquished his commission on account of ill health on 9 April 1918, and was granted the honorary rank of lieutenant (London Gazette 5 April 1918 p4279).
