No More Unclean by Edward Tyzack Lawson
|
Edward was the author of a book No More Unclean published in 1957. The book is a
novelised account of the experiences of a young South African, who
contracted leprosy – and was cured – at the Westfort Hospital in Pretoria,
South Africa.
Catholic Herald 13 September 1957 p3:
NO MORE
UNCLEAN! by E. T. Lawson (Peter Davies, 16/-).
THE
Westfort Leper Colony, where patients
were confined by law, was a place of detention without hope of return.
This account of the people there, and of that modern miracle, the coming
of the sulphone drugs, should help end the appalling cruelty surrounding
leprosy—so hurtful that one cured woman returned to the Colony, for no
one would accept her outside. Occasionally a little overwritten, it is
nevertheless a very moving book.
