the manor-house of Thomas Neville at Rolleston, Gervase, son of Robert
Clifton, esq., and Alice, widow of Richard Thurland of Nottingham. After

Sir Gervase
... had to his first wife Alice, the daughter of Thomas
Nevill of Rollaston, Esquire, the Relict of Richard
Thurland. There is a fair Alabaster Tomb for her in the North-East
end of the North Ile in Clifton Church.

is a very good Tomb of Alabaster for this mans first wife, with her
Figure upon it, and the Arms of Clifton, and Nevil of
Rolleston on the side, and at the head of it another,
either for this man or his son, without Inscription, or Arms, saving
that upon his breast is a Lyon Ramp.

Along the north wall of the transept are two fine alabaster tomb chests.
The tomb on the east side is to the memory of Alice, daughter of Thomas
Nevill of Rolleston, and the first wife of Sir Gervase Clifton. There is
no inscription but the arms on the side of the tomb are of Clifton and
Nevill, and Clifton impaling Nevill, 'making the identification certain,'
according to Cox.
