Mabel Powell of Rosell, Kilpeddar, Co. Wicklow died on Fourteenth March 1958 at Adelaide Hospt. She is recorded as single, aged 86 and a retired person. The cause of death is listed as broncho pneumonia and extensive burns of back.

Annette Georgina Mary Groome is recorded as a spinster, of full age, the daughter of Edward Groome, Rector of Beulieu. Annette is resident at Newtown Park, Monkstown.

Nathaniel Robert Powell is listed in the Irish Jurist 1849, p87 as having been admitted to the degree of Barrister on January 18th. Annette's death certificate lists her as a "widow of barrister". W.F. Montague Groome writes in his Groome family tree that Nannie's husband was "Maj. Powell", but I have been unable to find corroboration of this rank.

Nathaniel R. Powell, of Newtown Park, Blackrock, county Dublin is listed as owning 182 acres in county Meath in the 1870s.

Sergeant Nathaniel Johnston Hutchinson Powell from the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the East Surrey Regiment on 30 March 1887 (London Gazette 29 March 1887 p1848). He was was seconded for service with the Indian Staff Corps on 21 December 1887 (London Gazette 10 January 1888 p305). He participated in the Maranzai expedition in 1891 (The Imperial and Asiatic Quarterly Review January to April 1901 p222). Nathaniel, then a lieutenant in the 23rd Bengal Infantry (Pioneers), was listed as a Regimental, Commissariat and Transport Officer in the 2nd Brigade Staff in the formation of the Tochi Field Force despatched "to exact reparation for the treacherous and unprovoked attack on the escort of the Political Officer Tochi on the 10th June 1897" (The Risings on the North-west Frontier p v 1898). Lieutenant Nathaniel Johnstone Hutchinson Powell was promoted to captain in the Indian Staff Corps on 30 March 1898 (London Gazette 17 June 1898 p3702).

Occupation: Army Officer, reaching the rank of captain in the Royal Sussex Regiment.
Robert was commissioned as a sub-lieutenant on the unattached list on 10 September 1875 (London Gazette 10 September 1875 p4454), and attached to the 35th (Royal Sussex) Regiment of Foot on August 1876, with seniority backdated to 10 September 1875 (London Gazette 29 August 1876 p4780). He was promoted to lieutenant on 10 September 1876 (London Gazette 18 December 1887 p7251). The 35th Foot became the 1st Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment in 1881. In 1882, the Royal Sussex Regiment was stationed in Cyprus and Robert served for a period as the acting Local Commandant of Military Police (LCMP) in Limassol (Cyprus Secretariat Archives Minute Papers SA1/15769). Robert was promoted to captain on 28 November 1883 (London Gazette 18 December 1883 p6521). We see that Robert graduated with an LL.D. degree from Trinity College Dublin in 1886, and perhaps he was planning a career in military law. He was still attached to the Royal Sussex Regiment as a captain on his decease in 1889.
