of the Duke and Duchess of Connaught to Fort William, where her husband
was Garrison Quartermaster:
"Mrs. Carpendale was in a beautiful grape shade of velvet, the skirt
in front opening over an under panel of lighter material and the whole
decorated with some rich trimming which made the gown one of the
most
effective present."
