Adolphus William Dawes is recorded as a bachelor, of the parish of St Nicholas, Brighton. Ann Funnell is recorded as a spinster, of the parish of St Nicholas, Brighton.

Children: Married (2nd): James Parker Sleightholme on 5 October 1868 at the house of James Parker Sleighthome in Durban, Natal
James Parker Sleightholme is recorded as a widower, aged 28. He is a merchant, resident in Durban. Ann Dawes is recorded as a widow, aged 48, resident in Durban. The marriage was performed by Charles Harmon, Wesleyan minister, and witnessed by Selina Wood and Henry Wood Jun.

James was born in 1840, in Sleights, Whitby, Yorkshire North Riding, the son of John and Elizabeth Slightholme. He was married firstly to Martha Trowdale in 1860 in Whitby district. James and Martha emigrated to Natal, arriving in Durban on 3 November 1861 aboard the Cataraqui. He was a merchant and was a widower upon his marriage to Ann Dawes. In 1868, James was criminally charged with falsity (NAB vol 1/1/17 ref 7/1868). He died on 7 September 1882 in Rennek, Lyndenburg district, Transvaal, aged 42.
James and Ann executed a mutual will on 15 November 1878.

Know all men whom it may concern,
On this the 15th day of November in the year of out Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy eight.
Before me Henri Coenraad de Hart of Pretoria, in the Territory of the Transvaal, Notary Public, by lawful authority duly sworn and admitted, and in the presence of the subscribing Witnesses personally came and appeared, James Parker Sleightholm and his wife Ann Funnell formerly widow of the late Adolphus William Dawse, both of Pretoria.
  And these appearers being n health of body and of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding as appeared at the passing of these presents, declared their intention to make and execute their mutual last will and testament; wherefore the appearers declared to annul, cancel and make void to all intents and purposes, all wills codicils, and other testamentary acts by them or either of them heretofore made and executed, desiring that the same shall be of no force and effect whatever.
  And the appearer of the first part declared to nominate, institute and appoint his wife the appearer of the second part to be his sole and universal heir of all the Estate, goods and effects, stock, inheritances, legacies, chattels, credits and things whatsoever, and wheresoever the same may be, which shall be left at the death of the appearer of the first part, whether movable or immovable and of what nature or Kind soever, whether the same be in possession, reversion, remainder, or expectancy, nothing excepted.
  And the appearer of the second part declared to nominate, institute and appoint her husband the appearer of the first part together with her children begotten out of the marriage with the late Adolphus William Dawse, and the children to be procreated out of the present marriage to be the sole and universal heirs in equal portions share and share alike of all the estate, goods and effects, stock inheritances legacies, chattels, credits and things whatsoever, and wheresoever the same may be, which shall be left at the death of the appearer of the second part, whether movable or immovable and of what nature or Kind soever, whether the same be in possession, reversion, remainder, or expectancy, nothing excepted, and should one or more of such children happen to die in the life time of the appearer of the second part then the descendants or issue of such deceased child or children shall come into his, her, or their place by representation according to the law of ???, provided however that at the death of the appearer of the second part, the appearer of the first part shall retain possession of the whole of the estate and that no sale or distribution shall take place until after the death of the first appearer, when the portions of the aforesaid children found due to them shall be paid out of the estate.
  The appearers of the first and second part declared to nominate and appoint the survivor of them to be the Executor of their Will, Administrator of his or her Estate and Effects and guardians of his or her minor heirs, and the said appearers hereby giving and granting to him or her all such power and authority as are required or allowed in law, and especially those of assumption, substitution and surrogation
  The appearers direct that the Executor or Executors of this their will, and the guardian or guardians of their minor heirs shall not be required to lodge with the Master of the orphan chamber of this Territory an Inventory of their Estate and Effects.
  The appearers declared to reserve to themselves jointly during their joint lives the power from time to time and at all times hereafter to make all such alterations in or additions to this will as they shall think fit either by separate act or at the foot hereof, desiring that all such alterations or additions so made under their own signature shall be held as valid and effectual as if they had been inserted herein.
  All which having been clearly and distinctly read over to the appearers by one the Notary; they declared that they freely understood the same and that it contains their last will and testament desiring that it may have effect as such or as a codicil or otherwise in such manner as may be found to consist with law.
  Thus done and passed at Pretoria in the Territory of the Transvaal the day month and year above written in the presence of James Mortimer Attwell and William Leathern as Witnesses

Ann Sleighthome is recorded as aged 92  years and 23 days, the daughter of Thomas Funnell and Sarah Funnell (born Maggs). She was predeceased by spouses Adolphus William Dawes and James Parker Sleightholme. The cause of death is listed as bronchitis and old age, of duration 6 months.

BE IT HEREBY KNOWN UNTO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:-
  THAT on this the 10th day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Five personally came and appeared
    ANN SLEIGHTHOLME
who being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding declared her intention to make and execute her Last Will and Testament; wherefore hereby revoking and anulling all Wills Codicils and other testamentary acts heretofore made and passed by her, the said Testator hereby declared to nominate and appoint SELINA LUCY MORGAN of Rustenburg to be the sole and universal heir of all the Estate and Effects which shall be left by her after her death, whether movable or immovable, and of what nature and kind soever, and wheresoever situate, or whether the same be in possession, reversion remainder or expectancy nothing excepted.
  And the said Testator further declared to nominate and appoint JOHN McKENZIE JOHNSON of Rustenberg to be the Executor of this her will and Administrator of her Estate and Effects, hereby giving and granting unto him all such power and authority as are required or allowed in law.
  LASTLY the Testator declared to reserve to herself the power from time to time, and all times hereafter, to make all such alterations in or additions to this Will as shall think fit, either by a separate act or at the foot hereof, desiring that all such alterations or additions so made, under her own signature shall be held as valid and effectual as if they had been inserted herein.
  All of which having been clearly and distinctly read over to to the testator, she declared that she fully understood the same, and that it contained her last will and Testament, desiring that it may have effect as such, or as a Codicil, or otherwise in such manner as may be found to consist with law.

Elizabeth was a twin to Mary Ann. Elizabeth emigrated to Natal aboard the Phantom, arriving in Durban on 10 July 1858. She is recorded as aged 50, and surety was stood by George Andrews, her son-in-law. Accompanying Elizabeth on the Phantom were her husband Edward (49) and children Sarah (21), Lucy (19), Ellen (15), Edward (13), Selina (11), Alfred (10), Emily (8) and George (6). Mary Ann had previously emigrated aboard the Lady of the Lake in 1855, and the two elder daughters, Elizabeth and Harriet would come out in 1861 aboard the Leila. We know Eliza did emigrate - she was married in Pietermaritzburg in 1865 although I have not yet found record of the passage.

George was born in 1817/8, in Essex. He was a grocer. George died on 11 April 1882, in Durban, aged 64. The cause of death is listed as apoplexy.  He was buried in West Street cemetery, Durban, and the inscription on his headstone reads:

A note is made in the passenger record "In pencil: Ford: Insolv Davies: Dead and insolv in pencil; Insolvent is written against (Salmon) immigrants' names"

Death: 14 October 1905, at "Glenryan", 184 Montpelier Road, Durban, Natal, aged 82
The cause of death is listed as "paralysis of muscles of deglutition Inanition + Senile decay" which means that an inability to swallow led to exhaustion from a lack of nourishment.

Children: Notes: Naomi and five of her children (Selina, Elizabeth, Henry, William and Sarah) emigrated to Natal, arriving in Durban on 25 February 1865 aboard the Tugela. Surety of £55 was stood by Henry Wood, cabinet maker (her husband, who had evidently come out to Natal earlier) and Martin Short, storekeeper of Pietermaritzburg (Martin Short was married to Naomi's niece, Ellen Ford).

He was a clerk to an auctioneer. George died on 29 June 1868 1868, at 74 High Street, St John’s Wood, Middlesex, aged 57, with probate granted on 5 October 1868 to Selina.

Rebecca was born on 21 August 1809 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, the daughter of John and Mary Upton. She died in 1878, aged 68, and was buried in Annes Hill cemetery (old section), Gosport, Hampshire.
